Guatemala for Legal Professionals

Guatemala for Legal Professionals

The field of law tends to assume that people share common understandings of the world, common experiences and relatively equal access to problem solving. Guatemala challenges this in many ways.

Led by Susan Posey, this 8-day immersion trip explores the cosmovisions, recent history, multilingual reality and rugged landscape of a country that defies categorization. Hosted by the Asociación de Mujeres del Altiplano (AMA) and the Highland Support Project, participants will learn from a Maya spiritual guide, the Defensoría de Mujeres Indígenas, a Maya lawyer, Café Red and pluriversal law scholar Daniel Matul, and lead charlas on the U.S. legal system for women's circles in return.

The trip begins at Lake Atitlán and La Voz Coffee Cooperative, centers on Quetzaltenango and Santa Catarina Ixtahuacán, and ends in Antigua, with an optional hike up Pacaya Volcano. All meals, on-ground transportation and accommodations are included.

  • Dates: September 1–8, 2027

  • Cost: $1,470.50 + flight (based on a group of 10)
