What if your education could reconnect you—with nature, with your community, and with yourself? Join the Highland Support Project for an immersive summer experience designed for around kincentric education and sustainability.
This trip introduces kincentric pedagogy, an approach to learning that views all life forms as part of an interconnected ecological family. Rather than seeing humans as separate from nature, we will explore education that emphasizes relationships, reciprocity, and respect for all living beings.
Together, we will ask the question posed by K'iche anthropologist Don Audelino Sac Cuyo: Are you learning to be happy in the University? This journey invites you to reflect on the true purpose of education—not just as a path to individual success, but as a way to cultivate a "good life" in harmony with the world around us.
Trip Highlights & Activities:
Participate in a Maya Ceremony: Experience the spiritual and cultural depth of Indigenous traditions firsthand.
Community Engagement: Connect with local elementary and secondary schools to see how Kincentric values are applied in the classroom.
Grassroots Learning: Meet with local organizations doing vital grassroots work to understand how regenerative pedagogy creates conditions for communities and ecosystems to thrive.
Led by Ben Blevins, a PhD candidate in sustainable education, this experience goes beyond the status quo to actively repair relationships and reshape how we think about education's role in society.
Join us to explore how we can learn to live well, together.
