Progress and Community Commitment: Drainage, Water, and Sanitation Project in Sololá
Our Joint Efforts
With the vision of continuing to improve the quality of life in the communities of Tzanjuyub and Pasacuach, we met at the Sololá Development Council. Our purpose is clear: to diligently advance the vital drainage, water, and sanitation projects that are fundamental to the well-being of our communities.
Significant Progress
We are pleased to report that the Drainage, Water, and Sanitation Project for the community of Pasacuach is being prioritized. This progress is the result of hard and constant work over several months, which has allowed for:
Continuous development of the project.
Quantification of the budgets necessary for its execution.
Successful management of key permits with various state institutions.
In September, it was expected that specialized technical teams from the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Health, Cadastre, and CONRED would visit the community. Their work is essential for verifying conditions and issuing the necessary approvals, a crucial step that will bring us closer to formalizing the project and its entry into the Social Development Fund (FODES) in Guatemala. Although some visits have yet to take place, we anticipate submitting the project file to FODES in October.
Collaboration and Coordination for Success
To ensure the project's fluidity and effectiveness, we have established the following commitments and coordination efforts:
● The Altiplano Women's Association (AMA) will maintain direct and respectful communication with the Mayor of Santa Catarina Ixtahuacán. This relationship is crucial to ensure that all permits and authorizations are processed efficiently and without delay.
● Official communication between AMA and the Development Council will be channeled directly through Ing. Álvaro Colajú, who will be available to assist with any specific documentation or requirements.
● With the invaluable support of the community's COCODE, AMA commits to delivering all requested information and documentation on time, demonstrating the power of community collaboration.
A Future of Well-being Within Reach
The drainage, water, and sanitation project in Pasacuach is advancing steadily, reflecting significant progress in budget and permit management. This is a testament to the power of collaboration and collective commitment. Strengthening our inter-institutional coordination and maintaining a constructive dialogue with the Municipality of Santa Catarina Ixtahuacán is essential to ensure the viability and prompt realization of this long-awaited dream for the community.
Additional Update: A promising meeting on October 22 with Lic. Rubén Ajú and Ing. Álvaro confirmed that the budget for the water and sanitation project is ready and that communication with FODES has been established. Now, with the decided support of AMA, we are coordinating to obtain the official project code, which will allow us to submit it without delay and move even closer to its completion.
